Child Life

The Full Story

Katherine's passion for stories has always overflowed into her desire to help others, specifically children, share their stories. In high school, Katherine participated in her school's Teaching as a Profession tract for three years where she learned the concepts of lesson planning as well as interned in Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd-grade classrooms. In her senior year, she interned in Fulton County Schools with Amber Weldon-Stevens as a student music therapy intern as well as with Wendy Seeman as an art therapy intern.

With a new-found love for art therapies, she decided to pursue a master's in Creative Arts Therapy. Her undergraduate in Music and extensive theater and art experience would hopefully best equip her for the master's program.

Two years into her undergrad, Katherine discovered Child Life. The ability to work on providing hope and clarity to families and children in pediatric clinical environments through the use of play and other medical interventions seemed like the job for her. Katherine grew up with several health complications and understands the experience of being admitted into an unknown, and sometimes scary, clinical environment. The possible opportunity to help share the stories of children and help them share their own stories while emphasizing the health of the whole child is her desire.

Katherine is currently working as a Child Life Specialist at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Hughes Spalding and absolutely loves her job.
